GOSHEN - The first public input session for the Goshen Community Center is set for Tuesday, Feb. 12.

The first in a series of meetings that will investigate cost-cutting measures, next week’s session will allow the public to discuss potential alternative sites for the facility and to assist in developing the criteria that a subcommittee can review and finalize.

Right now, the proposed site for the Community Center is on the parcel west of the Millrace Canal that was once home to the Goshen Street Department.

The Community Center committee cited community concerns about that location, however, as one of the reasons for the postponement of the May special election vote on the facility until November.

The meeting will begin by looking over the various possible criteria that will be used as the Community Center committee investigates possible alternatives to the proposed site location. After the criteria discussion, Goshen Community Center, Inc. will speak about a handful of potential options for the center’s location.

The input session will be held at 7 p.m. in the Goshen High School cafeteria.

Following that meeting, another community input session will be held sometime in March to assist in narrowing the site selection search.

Goshen Community Center, Inc. wants to have a final decision on the site location by April.

A presentation on the Community Center will be made at the Goshen Chamber of Commerce’s next Wake Up, Goshen event Feb. 14. The presentation will allow a deeper look at the impact the center could have on local businesses and the community in general.

The chamber will host the event at Bosco’s Place, 117 South Fifth Street. Breakfast will begin at 7:30 a.m. and the event will run until 9 a.m. The cost for the breakfast is $18.

For more information on the event, or to register, visit the chamber’s website, goshen.org.
